A word about my blog .....

I'm using this blog to keep notes on my life and experiences, plus to keep track of my own recovery from a stroke (December 2006).

For those of you who were not aware, my brother, John, died on February 10, 2010. His remains were cremated and interred at Green Hills Memorial Park.

0806 gorillas

There was a report that wildlife researchers were concerned because the worldwide population of western lowland gorillas had dropped to less than 50,000 since the 1980s, but somehow managed to find more than 125,000 deep in the forests of the Republic of Congo.

The gorillas themselves are too reclusive and shy, so the researchers count their sleeping nests and calculate the population from that. What an interesting scientific method! Maybe the U.S. Census Bureau should do that when they count the population in 2010. The problem is that they would have overcounted Wilt Chamberlain in previous years by several thousands.

By the way, why do gorillas have big fingers?
