A word about my blog .....

I'm using this blog to keep notes on my life and experiences, plus to keep track of my own recovery from a stroke (December 2006).

For those of you who were not aware, my brother, John, died on February 10, 2010. His remains were cremated and interred at Green Hills Memorial Park.

0802 walkin' osams

Jim Y came by to help me walk today. It was hot, so we made our way to Lakewood Center, where it’s cooler inside.

We’ve taken to calling each other “osam”, an anagram for “old single Asian male” and it’s made its way into our emails and in-person conversations.

Kinda reminds me of two female cousins of mine. They’re not sisters, but they act like it. They have the same pet name for each other and use it to talk about the other in the third-person tense. The word is “onara”. It’s Japanese, but I won’t translate it here.

My mother knows about it, since they are both her nieces. But she just shakes her head whenever they use it.

Ah, Lakewood Center. I miss that. Since moving to the Modesto Area in '94, Lakewood Center is sort of a symbol of Southern California and "home" for me. Did you every go there when it was an outdoor mall?
