Saturday started off cool, so I was able to get in a couple of morning walks assisted by my father. The afternoon was taken up with rest and some clean-up prior to my evening out.My parents dropped me off at SBCC in time for the Saturday eve service. After the service, I was picked up by my friend, John, for dinner with some friends. This was the first time I did not join my Revelation study group, but I had let them know in advance about my planned absence.
We met up with the rest of the group at Johnny Reb's in Long Beach. There was Linda, Walt, Cheryl, Shonn, Steve, Akiko (John's wife), Taren, and Neil, who came all the way from Ventura to join us. Steve is a pastor at his own church and he will be going on a mission trip to Thailand by the end of July. John asked Steve if he thought he might get a real Thai massage but somehow missed Steve's comment that it would not be appropriate, as he kept describing one in detail.

Everyone over-ordered, including me. I ordered a full rack of beef ribs, with hush puppies, BBQ beans and sweet potato fries. There were five HUGE ribs on the rack and I only made it through two of them. The meat was rich and tender and virtually falling off the bone, although John had difficulty cleaning his rib bones. Needless to say, everyone asked for to-go boxes. I made sure to include the rib bones for Jett to gnaw on.
I was so full that I passed on dessert. John decided to go for the "Best Ever Southern Pecan Pie" with vanilla ice cream (see pic), and I think that Walt had the "Kimber's Fried Apple Pie" with ice cream. I also think that Akiko had the peach cobbler and Taren had the key lime pie, but they were on the far end of the table, so I cannot be certain.
Conversation changed to the next dining out event for this group, which calls itself "Eater's Ink", as all participants are expected to complete their own reviews and ratings. My rating can be found on YELP . At the end, they were talking about "best value" eats. We'll see what they come up with.

John and Akiko dropped me off at home around 10pm.
