A word about my blog .....

I'm using this blog to keep notes on my life and experiences, plus to keep track of my own recovery from a stroke (December 2006).

For those of you who were not aware, my brother, John, died on February 10, 2010. His remains were cremated and interred at Green Hills Memorial Park.

COMMENTS ARE ENCOURAGED, WELCOMED AND APPRECIATED.

0123 food trucks

After the memorial service, we (Ching and I) went to a street in West Los Angeles, where a couple dozen food trucks were congregated for a fundraiser to benefit the people of Haiti after the 7.0 earthquake (January 12th).rocked the country. There was a lot to choose from. We settled on pork tacos from Flying Pig and a “sandwich” from Nom Nom. Mmmm.

0123 memorial for fred ota

The father of a friend of mine, Candice, died recently and I attended a memorial service in West Los Angeles to pay my respects. It was a nice ceremony at the United Methodist Church on Purdue. I saw several friends and acquaintances there.

0116 art 101

The Santiago Art District is just west of the Santa Ana Amtrak Station and takes up a few blocks. It is mostly artists’ lofts, used as display spaces. Every 3rd Saturday of each month, they hold the Santa Ana Artwalk, from 7pm to 10pm. It is free to the public and gives the artists a forum to show-off what they have done.

After finding a place to park, we headed off in the direction of a food truck that we had spied during our search for parking. We hadn’t had dinner and it smelled good. The truck was Diaggio, and the menu boasted of delicacies such as Argentine Sausage with Chimichurri in French Bread and Spinach & Feta Cheese Empanadas. We ordered a sampling of dishes in order to try and taste as many as we could.

Once dinner was finished, we looked in several of the open lofts for looks at paintings, photographs, and sculptures. It was very impressive.

0116 imaginarium

Ching picked me up at home in the afternoon. It was still early, as the Artwalk didn’t start until 7pm. So we caught a movie at Long Beach Town Center. The movie was “The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus” Near the beginning, I had to use the restroom, so I left. When I returned, I asked, ”What did I miss?” Ching replied, “They found Heath Ledger, but he died.” There were two somewhat related bits of information in that reply. The characters in the movie found the character played by Heath Ledger and the actor, Heath Ledger, died.

After the movie, we burned some time at Starbucks, where we found a receptacle that Ching used to charge up her iPhone. We left shortly afterwards and headed for the Santa Ana Artwalk.

0104 the blues

I was watching an episode from the third season of “Stargate Atlantis” and listening to a commentary by the director. A man and a woman were having a dialogue while the woman was eating a bowl of blue jello. The director commented that he would never use blue jello again. While the two were talking, the woman’s teeth were turning blue.
