A word about my blog .....

I'm using this blog to keep notes on my life and experiences, plus to keep track of my own recovery from a stroke (December 2006).

For those of you who were not aware, my brother, John, died on February 10, 2010. His remains were cremated and interred at Green Hills Memorial Park.

1224 christmas eve

My friend, Judy K, picked me up for the Christmas Eve service at SBCC. There were two services (4:00 and 5:30), but we were attending the 5:30pm service. After opening worship with Pastor Joey and the Worship Team, there was a performance by the Hula Team, as they danced and gestured to “Away In A Manger”. It was very beautiful.

Pastor Gary gave a message about hope and told the story of an American POW during the Vietnam War, who was shot down on Christmas Eve four decades earlier. The service ended with candlelight provided by lit candles in the hands of the congregation.

After the service, I saw Carol and asked what the plans were for dinner (we had talked earlier about getting something to eat). She said that instead of driving around and checking what was still open (like last year) and ending up at Norm’s, the plan was to go straight to Norm’s. So we did.

As we were entering the restaurant, Mike told us to look at the special thru the window. They had a New York steak dinner on a sign. Someone asked him if he was in the mood for steak. He told us to look underneath the steak. Under the steak, the sign read “includes dessert” and had a picture of a brownie with a scoop of ice cream. Guess what. Half of us ordered the steak special.
