A word about my blog .....

I'm using this blog to keep notes on my life and experiences, plus to keep track of my own recovery from a stroke (December 2006).

For those of you who were not aware, my brother, John, died on February 10, 2010. His remains were cremated and interred at Green Hills Memorial Park.

0414 walking and talking

The focus of today’s therapy with Karina was getting me to walk more with the walker. During the last several days, my ‘walks’ have been concentrating on putting little or no weight on the walker. As a result, my steps have been slow and small.

Dr. Cormack suggested allowing me to put weight on the walker. As a result of doing so, my speed increased and my stride lengthened. The thought is that if I speed up, I’ll be less dependent on the walker (since it’s moving) and will put less weight on it.

We practiced this in the hallway and found that I stop to answer questions.

I have to work on that. It took me a bit of time to walk and chew gum, so this will be similar.
