A word about my blog .....

I'm using this blog to keep notes on my life and experiences, plus to keep track of my own recovery from a stroke (December 2006).

For those of you who were not aware, my brother, John, died on February 10, 2010. His remains were cremated and interred at Green Hills Memorial Park.

0502 day 5 - oxygen mask

What can you do in 18 seconds? That’s the amount of time you’d have of “useful consciousness” if depressurization happens on an airplane. Flight attendants recommend that you should put on your own oxygen mask, start the flow of oxygen, then help children and those around you.

Unless you help yourself first, you cannot help others. God wants you to take care of yourself first. Only then can others be helped by you. If you need help yourself, then who will help others?

Remember, though, to take oxygen from God. We have to replenish ourselves from God’s own resources. Our spiritual health is dependent on it. Otherwise, we can fall victim to the pressures of the society around us. We’d judge ourselves on what is “acceptable” by the world, not by God.

What the biggest physical challenge I face? I’m not overweight – I’m undertall. According to the height-weight chart at my doctor’s office, I should be 6-foot-4. Another 8 inches should do it.

How do I usually handle powerful emotions? Hmmm. I’ll tell you when I have one.

How do I want to die? Like my grandfather – quietly in his sleep. Not screaming, like the other people in the car that he was driving.
