A word about my blog .....

I'm using this blog to keep notes on my life and experiences, plus to keep track of my own recovery from a stroke (December 2006).

For those of you who were not aware, my brother, John, died on February 10, 2010. His remains were cremated and interred at Green Hills Memorial Park.

0531 where to go in 2008

I had some free time yesterday and I found myself surfing through some travel websites, just dreaming of places to go for vacation next year. And here I am, wheelchair-bound and uncertain how the current year is going to play itself out.

My current options for 2008 are (a) spend a week at Club Med's Turkoise resort; (b) spend a week on an Alaskan cruise; or (c) spend a week skiing the French Alps. Of course, there's always (d) sit at home thinking about what could have been. Nothing is certain yet. Just thinking.

0529 the universe is safe ... sort of

Well, the universe is once again at ease, thanks in part to the gravitational constant of the universe. Miss Estonia never made it to the semi-finals and Miss USA slipped during the evening gown competition, so the title of Miss Universe 2007 was awarded to ... Riyo Mori of Japan. But before the little people of the universe jump for joy, note this ... Riyo is 5'9" tall. In all fairness, I'm including a pic of Riyo in this post. She is 20 years old and teaches dance at a studio operated by her mother. Very nice indeed. I've always been partial to the beauty and professionalism of Asian women in general, and to Japanese women in particular. That's just me being me. As a footnote though, I must add that I understand the voluntary withdrawal of Miss Sweden and Miss Europa, due to the pageant not properly representing the modern woman. However, I do have my doubts regarding Miss Europa's claim, since we still cannot accurately ascertain the gender types from that Jovian moon. Comments are welcome.

0528 the future of the universe ... sort of

Monday was a slow day with no therapies scheduled, and I found myself with time on my hands, so I drifted through my AOL and discovered that the Miss Universe 2007 pageant is tonight. As any normal human interested solely in the stability of the universe, I proceeded to flip through the contestant pages to check out the field to get an idea of whom will be representing our universe in the future. I was surprised that most of the contestants are tall. Even Miss USA comes in at 5'11". Most were slim or nicely proportioned, but I was surprised by Miss Estonia, who looks like she's had a bit of augmentation. I'm adding her pic to this blog, so you can decide for yourself. For obvious reasons, I hope she doesn't win. Comments are welcome.

0526 lowering the ears

Saturday was an easy day since no therapies were scheduled. In the evening, I was visited by relatives and my cousin Christine, a hairdresser by profession, was able to give me a long-needed haircut. I'm attaching a pic of my new shorter do. It was a nice day and great to see Willie, Sachi, Nancy, Andy and Zoya, in addition to Chris. They also brought dinner from Phillipe's, which was very much welcome as well.

0525 looking back

This has been a busy week. I had 3 hours of therapy on both Tuesday and Thursday for speech, OT, and PT. Speech went well as Amanda thought that my enunciation of words in conversation was clear, although I need to work on slowing down so that I'm less tempted to blur words or phrases together.

Jennifer (PT) was working on getting me back on my feet and walking, with the assistance of a stsndard walker. She doesn't like the hemi-walker at all. Lana (OT) spent the time getting my right arm/shoulder to use less deltoid and more t-something.

I was cleared a couple of weeks ago for thin liquids, like water, but had been taking it cautiously. This week I enjoyed non-thickened juice and ice cream for the first time this year! I am now looking forward to visiting In-N-Out sometime very soon for the strawberry shake.

This coming weekend is Memorial Day, so we'll see how it goes.

0521 starting off

Hmmm. How to begin?

I've had previous blogs on MySpace and other locales, but they were too restrictive or inflexible. We'll see how this one works out.

This is enough for now.
